PAM AT THE SHOT TOWER

Pam works the ring of Melbourne Central rather than the tower itself — the La Trobe Street shutters, the loading dock off Little Lonsdale, the lift-motor rooms visible through the glass cone. The tower is the trophy nobody can reach, which is exactly why it's the shape everyone paints next to.

THE PLACE

Coop's Shot Tower was built in 1889 to drop molten lead 50 metres into water and make gun shot. When the shopping centre went up around it in the 1980s they refused to knock it down, so a 84-metre glass cone was built over the top of it instead.

A brick tower sealed inside a glass pyramid is about as Melbourne as it gets: keep the old thing, build the new thing around it, argue about it forever.

IN THE GAME

The Shot Tower shows up about 4000 metres into a run. Crash into it and your Pam is painted straight onto it — the piece lands in your Pam Book and stays up in the world for everyone else to fly past.
