FAQ
Melbourne's graffiti bird, the free game, and everything people ask about both.
WHAT IS PAM THE BIRD?
Pam the Bird is Melbourne's most famous graffiti bird — a simple cartoon bird that has been appearing across the city since 2023: on the Flinders Street Station clock tower, trains, freeway signs, silos and bridges. Once you spot one, you start seeing them everywhere.
WHO IS PAM THE BIRD?
Pam is a character, not a person — a wonky cartoon bird painted across Melbourne that has become a cult icon of the city's street-art scene. In Pam The Bird: The Game you take on the role yourself: fly the city, crash into landmarks and leave your own Pam behind.
WHAT IS THE PAM THE BIRD GAME?
Pam The Bird: The Game is a free endless arcade game set over a stylised Melbourne. You choose Round Pam, Long Pam or Clock Pam, paint your own colourway, fly one-touch through the city, and every crash leaves a giant painted Pam on the landmark you hit.
WHAT DOES PAM THE BIRD MEAN?
It's the name of the bird tag seen all over Melbourne. The style varies from piece to piece — sometimes long and thin, sometimes short and stout — and the game plays with that: Round Pam, Long Pam and the clock-bodied Clock Pam are all yours to paint and fly.
HOW MANY PAM THE BIRDS ARE THERE IN MELBOURNE?
Hundreds of sightings have been shared across the suburbs, from train lines and freeway signs to rooftops and towers. In the game the flock never stops growing — every player's crash adds one more permanent Pam to the shared city.
WHERE CAN I PLAY PAM THE BIRD: THE GAME?
Play free in any browser at pamthebird.app on phone, tablet or desktop. It also installs to your home screen as an app and loads the newest published version when opened online.
WHY IS PAM THE BIRD FAMOUS IN MELBOURNE?
Because of scale and placement. Pam turns up in spots nobody should be able to reach — the Flinders Street Station clock tower, the Nylex clock, silos, the Bolte Bridge, city rooftops — which made the bird a citywide talking point and a symbol of Melbourne street art culture.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF PAM?
Round Pam is the compact, blobby sticker-style bird. Long Pam is the stretched version with the same features: a long pointed beak, a ringed eye, a semicircle cap on the back, two three-toed feet and a three-feather tail. Clock Pam is the special edition — the whole bird is a working clock showing Melbourne time.
IS PAM THE BIRD FREE?
Yes. The whole game is free to play. You earn birdseed by flying and spend it on spray cans — nothing is required to keep playing.
HOW DO I PAINT MY OWN PAM?
Open the Paint screen, pick Round, Long or Clock Pam, then colour the body, head cap, wing, feet and beak from your unlocked cans. Your colourway is what gets sprayed on the city every time you crash.
CAN I PLAY PAM THE BIRD WITH FRIENDS?
Yes. Swap friend codes on the Mates screen and your mates' best pieces turn up around Melbourne in every run you fly, alongside the world's top pieces.
WHO IS BEHIND PAM THE BIRD?
That's part of the legend — as is the way with graffiti, the painters behind Melbourne's Pam the Bird tag keep out of sight. The game doesn't solve the mystery; it lets you join in. Every Pam on the game's Melbourne was painted by a player.
DOES PAM THE BIRD NEED AN INTERNET CONNECTION?
Yes. Pam loads the newest published game whenever you open it. Your guest progress remains saved on your device, while accounts, leaderboards, mates and the shared Melbourne world need a connection.
CAN I INSTALL PAM THE BIRD AS AN APP?
Yes. On iPhone open pamthebird.app in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android open the browser menu and choose Install app. It launches fullscreen with its own icon and fetches the newest version when opened online.
DO I NEED AN ACCOUNT TO PLAY?
No. You can play immediately as a guest with an auto-assigned GUEST#### tag, and your best piece is still painted permanently into the shared Melbourne. Claiming a tag saves your progress across devices and puts you on the leaderboards.
HOW DO I GET MORE SPRAY CANS?
Collect birdseed during runs and spend it in the Shop. Cans unlock colours for your bird, your tag and your crash marks. Nothing in the game costs real money.
WHICH MELBOURNE LANDMARKS ARE IN THE GAME?
Flinders Street Station, the Shot Tower, Queen Victoria Market, the Docklands silos, the Nylex clock, the cheese stick, Skipping Girl, Bolte Bridge, the MCG, Rialto, Eureka Tower, West Gate Bridge, the Yarra, Luna Park, Station Pier, Coburg drive-in and more — each with its own page.
IS PAM THE BIRD SAFE FOR KIDS?
Yes. It's a one-touch arcade game with no violence, no chat and no purchases. Painting happens on cartoon landmarks inside the game only.
DOES THE GAME ENCOURAGE REAL GRAFFITI?
No. Pam The Bird is a celebration of Melbourne's street art culture inside a game. Painting real property without permission is illegal — keep it on the screen.
